Lake Placid Charm

Despite the many physical similarities between the Adirondack park regions, the Lake Placid Real Estate market differs greatly from other local markets. Although homes within the other local markets share some of the same characteristics and charm of Lake Placid Homes, the surrounding areas, including Saranac Lake and Wilmington, are still experiencing tough real estate markets.

Subtle Differences
The transient nature of the village of Lake Placid makes for a broader market of buyers. The Olympic village brings waves of tourists from far and wide throughout the year to witness various sporting events and the sheer beauty of the town and mountains. Saranac Lake, on the other hand, offers fewer vacation rental properties and fewer activities for vacationers to enjoy year-round. Many of these temporary residents are interested in purchasing a second home and very often, they show interest in Lake Placid Homes on the Lake Placid Real Estate market. In contrast, it would seem that many of the visitors to the Saranac Lake region grew up in the area and return during the summer months to stay with family rather than to purchase property of their own. For those who visit during the winter months for the spectacular skiing, although Whiteface Mountain is located in nearby Wilmington, many choose to stay in Lake Placid Homes in order to be closer to amenities and shopping since there isn’t much of either in Wilmington, despite recent growth.

Physical Features of Lake Placid Homes
While Lake Placid Homes are known for their typically high-end luxury, some are of the opinion that Saranac Lake, due to its history, is comprised of mostly older, Victorian style homes with multiple floors and rooms. Again, there are some of these style homes in Lake Placid as well, but many of the buyers who are shopping the Lake Placid Real Estate market are looking for higher-end second home properties, not fixer-uppers.Lake Placid Homes run the gamut when it comes to styles. Again, the physical features of Lake Placid Real Estate do not typically vary much from that of Saranac Lake – properties are characterized by deciduous and coniferous trees, green grass lawns, and rocky terrains. One of the luxuries of property in the region is the fact that most homes come with decent sized lawns on which children can play and adults can entertain during the warmer months. With sizeable lawns comes an element of privacy considering most homes with decent lawns are set back in the woods.

Slight Variances Make a World of Difference
Homes and properties within the Adirondacks are typically similarly styled and exhibit many of the same landscape features; however there are some slight yet significant differences between the towns that set them all apart. For those in the market for real estate, it is very important to keep these subtle differences in mind.

Ironman Triathlon Brings Millions to Lake Placid Region

Now that another Ironman event is behind us here in Lake Placid, it is important to reflect on the economic impact that events of this magnitude have on our region. According to our local visitor’s bureau, this annual event brings nearly $7 million of revenue to Essex County – just during the few days leading up to and after the event. This figure doesn’t include the multiple visits that most athletes make to the Adirondack Real Estate region throughout the year before the event in order to train.

Economic Benefits of the Ironman Event
Of the industries that benefit from the event, Lake Placid Vacation Rentals rank high on the list. Athletes and spectators alike need a place to stay while they are in town and it is usually more comfortable and cost effective for them to stay in one of many Lake Placid Vacation Rentalswithin Adirondack Real Estate rather than renting multiple hotel rooms. These rental properties house eight to ten people, a typical group size which travel with Ironman athletes, with multiple bedrooms and bathrooms. Not only does the homeowner benefit economically from these rentals, but the town itself benefits because each of these visitors spends money on groceries, souvenirs, and dining out, for example. Again, athletes very often visit multiple times throughout the year prior to the event in order to train on the actual course which means even more income for our region. One study showed that, on average, visitors for the event spend $100 per day – compound that with that fact that they were over 3,500 athletes in this year’s race! Additionally, many local shops produce or purchase for resale souvenir items which commemorate the Ironman event including shirts, caps, water bottles, and other items bearing our town’s name and the official event insignia.

The Beauty of the Adirondack Terrain
The terrain of Adirondack Real Estate contributes heavily to the difficulty of the race as well as to the beauty that spectators and athletes get to enjoy during their stay. Mirror Lake hosts the start of the race with the swimming portion of the event and is located at the heart of the village of Lake Placid. Peppered throughout Adirondack Real Estate are the Lake Placid Vacation Rentals which are home to the athletes in the days leading up to and just after the race. Some of these Lake Placid Vacation Rentals are listed on the Adirondack Real Estate MLS for sale which affords the athletes an opportunity to own their own home in our beautiful region and to train throughout the year at their leisure.

If you or someone close to you is planning to participate in the Lake Placid Ironman event, it is advised that you plan well enough in advance of the event in order to secure one of many spectacular Lake Placid Vacation Rentals in which to stay. The Ironman event provides a wonderful boost to Lake Placid’s economy in addition to being a delightfulevent for athletes and spectators alike.
